FMMC 10-07 – GROUND DETECTOR AND LINE ISOLATION MONITOR ALARMS

INFORMATION

Ground detectors and line isolation monitor alarms play an important role in patient and user safety. Whenever these devices go into alarm, there is an unsafe electrical condition in some electrical piece of equipment.

POLICY

When the Call Center receives a call from the operating or delivery rooms, he/she must respond in an appropriate manner in order to correct the problem in the shortest possible time.

PROCEDURE

  1. When an alarm sounds, the cause is usually due to a defective piece of electrical equipment. The user should silence theSonalert and unplug the last piece of equipment plugged in before the alarm sounded.
  2. If the alarm clears after unplugging the last item connected, it is safe to proceed with caution as long as the item is not used or plugged in.
  3. If the alarm continues to sound, call Clinical Engineering at 3-6383.  If there is no response, call PPDMC at 3-6281.
  4. (Equipment Services is responsible for all Biomedical equipment. PPDMC is responsible for the LIM or ground detector.)
