FMMC 10-17 – WORK IN ANIMAL CARE AREAS

PURPOSE

It is recognized that the animal care facility is a highly sensitive area. If precautions are not taken, research and experiments may be compromised and possibly destroyed. It is necessary to exercise proper care and judgment in performing work assignments in the animal care area.

POLICY

Before any work assignment is performed in the Animal Care areas, the workman must consult with a qualified individual knowledgeable in proper methods to be used.

PROCEDURE

1.   All work to be performed in animal care, including maintenance and/or construction, shall be done under strict supervision of a qualified individual.

2.   Qualified individuals are all maintenance supervisors, the maintenance superintendent, coordinators, and others properly inserviced in the guidelines for working in animal care.

3.   After hours admittance to the facility is only for authorized individuals who have the label affixed to their badge.
