FMMC 10-20 – CLEANING THE TRANSLOGIC TUBE SYSTEM AFTER A SPILL

Equipment Required*
· Rubber Gloves
· Full Face Mask
· Translogic Cleaning Bottle
· Bleach Solution
· Rags
* Equipment Located in H-43 in a marked cabinet
If during the transfer of a carrier there is a spill outside of the carrier hospital staff are to call PPDMC Dispatch at 3-6281.
PROCEDURES
Caution: Do not handle contaminated tube without personal protection equipment.
Zone 1
- Dispatch is to immediately shut down the system per manufacturer’s recommendations which shows message indicating to users that the system is down.
- Dispatch creates repair work order that is assigned by and paged out to the appropriate mechanic’s by PPDMC Operation Center
- Mechanics are to note the transactions on the screen and locate the tube in which the spill occurred and station one mechanic at each station
- The mechanic then brings the system back online picking “purge system” among the four choices.
- Mechanic then picks “Abort Purge” that allows the urgent off to be canceled but allows the blue maintenance button to be used.
- At stations that need to be cleaned mechanic should:
- Admin function code 1234
- Find stat transaction item 14
- Use 777 as code to access
- Quickly enter destination station
- Repeat as necessary to all affected stations
- Run the ‘cleaning carrier’ with Dispatch inside through the affected tube(s) 1 time – through and back to original station 1 time.
- Turn off the maintenance mode at the computer by using the “off” button
- Purge the system if needed carriers are still present because of the urgent off stopping of the system
- Mechanic to bring the system back up per manufacturer’s recommendations and a message with show on all stations that the system is back in service.
- Hospital staff is responsible for the cleaning of the tubes and the tube stations.
