Technical Requirements

To have a successful online teaching experience, there are some minimum technology requirements that should be met. These requirements are crucial to ensure that all systems function properly.

Minimum Requirements:

Table of Hardware and Software Requirements

Hardware

  • Headset with a microphone
  • Webcam (Recommended)

Software

Internet Connection

  • 1 MBPS Broadband Connection

If you will be doing any of your instruction away from campus, run an online speed test to verify that your connection is sufficient. (Note: testing from campus is unnecessary and will result in abnormally high results.)

Minimum Requirements for Students

Baseline technology requirements for your students are also critical to the success of your course. We suggest you share minimum technology requirements with your class. The University of Kentucky strongly recommends that each student purchase a personal computer. Review minimum recommendations and guidelines for students on the ITS Student Hardware & Software Guidelines page.

Support

ITS Customer Services provides a single point of contact for the technology needs of faculty, staff and students, and are available to assist with the knowledge and tools for success with any information technology at the University of Kentucky.
