Victor Hazard

After growing up in the great state of Rhode Island, Victor Hazard attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 1978. In 1980, he received a Masters of Education, Counseling and Guidance Degree from the University of Montevallo, in Montevallo, Alabama. He has worked in the Student Affairs Division for higher education in the states of Arkansas, and Louisiana prior to coming to UK. He began his career at UK in 1988, when he became the Associate Dean of Students. In fall 2000, he was named Dean of Students. Prior to his tenure at UK, he served as Assistant to the Dean of Students and Director of University Housing at Northeast Louisiana University. His wife, Deborah, currently works in the department of Conferences and Institutes here at UK. Deborah and Victor have three children, the oldest of which is a student at Cumberland College, in Williamsburg, KY. Their youngest son will be graduating from Lafayette High School in June of 2003, with our daughter entering high school in the fall of 2003.

As Dean of Students, Victor Hazard's responsibilities include administrative supervision for a large professional staff, including two Associate Deans, four Assistant Deans, a Coordinator for Health/Alcohol Education, the Director of Campus Recreation, the Director of Intercollegiate Debate, the Director of the Disability Resource Center, and their respective staffs. Additionally, he provides administrative supervision for a large classified support staff and numerous graduate assistants along with student employees.

Dean Hazard is "second - in - command" in the Division of Student Affairs and acts, in the Vice Presidents absence, as the Chief Student Affairs Officer in division - wide concerns and issues emanating from other departments, including Residence Life, Student Center, Counseling Center, Career Planning and Placement, Student Media, Campus Cuisine (food services), Boone Center, and Student Activities.
