Vice President for Student Success Kirsten Turner sent the following message to students on November 18, 2020

Dear Students,

You are ending this semester strong. You’re finishing up your coursework and preparing for finals. You’re looking forward to a much-deserved break.

The next few days and weeks are as important as any time in the semester, particularly as cases of COVID-19 are surging in Kentucky and across the country.

We know you want to keep your loved ones safe. You’ve done that throughout the semester.

We are here to continue to support you as you do. To that end, please consider the following as you make your plans for winter break:

  1. Get your COVID-19 exit test. Make sure you leave enough time to get your results before you depart, so you can make your plans for travel home accordingly. Schedule your free test here.
  2. Get your flu shot, if you haven’t already. Our experts tell us that it is more important this year than ever before. Check here for locations.
  3. Make plans with your loved ones in mind. If you are planning to see high-risk family members over the break, note that experts recommend quarantining for 14 days beforehand.
  4. Think carefully about safety precautions while traveling. If you fly, you should be very cautious in the airport terminals. If you plan to drive with anyone else, remember that the inside of a car can be a very high-risk environment.
  5. Continue making good decisions while you are away. Keep practicing the healthy behaviors that have kept the UK community safe throughout the semester. You can continue to screen on your UK app throughout the break.

If you have questions or concerns, or need to talk to someone, you can reach out to our counseling center or to your advisor or RA, if you live on campus. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength.

You can follow our progress and efforts with respect to testing, numbers of cases and isolation capacity and everything about our response to COVID-19 at uky.edu/coronavirus. We will be communicating throughout the next several weeks, while you are away from campus, about how you can stay safe and about plans for next semester.

Finish strong. Stay safe. Protect and respect each other.

You got this.

Kirsten Turner,
Vice President for Student Success
