Disaster Recovery Centers Open to Assist Disaster Survivors
 
The following KYEM/FEMA disaster recovery centers will open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, to help explain available assistance programs, how to apply to FEMA, and help connect survivors with resources for their recovery needs.

Beware of Fraud and Scams
 
After a disaster, scam artists, identity thieves, and other criminals often attempt to take advantage of disaster survivors. 
 
If you're applying for disaster assistance following the tornadoes, beware of scammers:

  • Ask to see ID badges. All FEMA staff carry an identification badge with a photograph.
  • Never agree to pay a fee for filling out applications.

We encourage survivors to watch for and report any suspicious activity. Below are ways to report fraud:

FEMA Information

  • President Biden approved a major disaster declaration Dec. 12, 2021, allowing residents of Caldwell, Christian, Fulton, Graves, Hart, Hickman, Hopkins, Logan, Lyon, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Taylor, and Warren counties who were affected by the severe storms and tornadoes beginning Dec. 10, 2021, to apply for federal assistance. More counties may be designated for disaster assistance as damage assessments are completed and requested by the commonwealth.
  • Residents in the designated counties can apply online at disasterassistance.gov, by calling (800) 621-3362, or by using the FEMA mobile app. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service.
  • Disaster assistance may include financial help with temporary lodging and home repairs, along with other programs to assist those recovering from the storms.
  • FEMA will ensure that assistance is equally available to all affected populations. Assistance will be provided in a way that is accessible to all.
  • Disaster recovery is a whole community effort. Federal, state and local partners and non-governmental organizations are working together to support Kentucky, the disaster-impacted communities and the survivors.

For individuals in the counties covered by the President’s Major Disaster Declaration, Individual Assistance is available. Individuals in Caldwell, Christian, Fulton, Graves, Hart, Hickman, Hopkins, Logan, Lyon, Marshall, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Taylor, and Warren counties are currently eligible. Additional counties may be added as damage assessments continue. Individuals can apply for Individual Assistance with FEMA the following ways:

Internet or Smartphone Application: Disaster survivors may apply for IHP Assistance or check their application status online at www.disasterassistance.gov. Disaster survivors may also access FEMA via smartphone by downloading the application from www.fema.gov or through their mobile provider’s application store.
 
FEMA Toll-Free Helpline: Disaster survivors may call FEMA toll-free at 1-800-621-3362 (TTY for deaf or hard-of-hearing Kentuckians: 1-800-462-7585) to register for assistance or check their application status. 

Mobile Registration Centers Open
 
FEMA personnel at mobile registration centers can help residents who were affected by the Dec. 10 storms apply for federal assistance. Mobile centers are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

There are three other ways to apply if you are unable to visit one of the centers: 
 
You can apply online at disasterassistance.gov, by calling 800-621-3362, or by using the FEMA mobile app. If you use a relay service, such as video relay (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA the number for that service. When you apply, you will need to provide:

  • A current phone number where you can be contacted.
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • A general list of damage and losses.
  • Banking information if you choose direct deposit.
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.
  • The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (local time) seven days a week until further notice.

Small Business Administration (SBA) Resources
 
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) provides one-on-one assistance to homeowners, renters, and business owners seeking disaster assistance for losses caused by the severe storms and tornadoes that occurred on Dec. 10. 
 
The SBA has established a Business Recovery Center in Benton, Kentucky, where SBA staff are on site to provide assistance for disaster loan applications.

For those in communities that lack reliable internet connection due to the storms, telehealth visits can be scheduled immediately over the phone:

  • Call Teladoc at (855) 225-5032 to request a free visit
  • Talk to a doctor by phone or video from anywhere
  • If medically necessary, have a prescription sent to a pharmacy that’s convenient for the patient.
