RECOMMENDATION 1: STUDENT EXPERIENCE AND SUCCESS The University should provide and support plentiful IT resources in the living and learning environment that empower and enhance the experiences of students and contribute to student success when used effectively and profusely. Hometown: Red House,WestVirginia Major: Community & Leadership Development, Career &Technical Education – Agricultural Education University Affiliations: “With the workforce evolving and becoming more technologically focused, UK has given me the resources to make sure I am prepared to enter it. Using classroom technology has given me a better understanding, not only in my major, but in my day-to-day life.” Action Item 1:1 ITS should assess operations to ensure they are adequately providing services to encourage and support students’ success in the four pillars of student academic excellence: (1) student health and wellness, (2) belonging and engagement, (3) academic success, and (4) financial stability. ITS should continue collaborative relationships with the Office of the Provost in the areas of institutional research, advanced analytics, and project management in support of the larger University mission. ITS should also seek future points of collaboration to ensure adequate support of this goal, through periodic conversations between the Office of the Provost and ITS Leadership. Action Item 1:2 ITS should leverage existing infrastructure, applications and systems, when possible, to enhance the diverse student experience. Based on feedback received from the IT Strategic Planning process, ITS should partner with campus collaborators to expand utilization of current toolsets to benefit students. For example, students should be able to access current and historical syllabi of courses through the course registration portal to more easily assess course appropriateness and predict workload when making course selections. Faculty should be encouraged by the Office of the Provost and Deans to upload draft syllabi prior to priority registration. In addition, ITS should link WildCat ID photos to course rosters, allowing faculty to learn names more quickly, building stronger relationships with students.
