Action Item 3:5 ITS should develop procedures that engage the research community in determining and selecting appropriate, emerging, and leading-edge computing resources. In consultation with researchers, ITS should develop a continuous process for identifying and addressing the “technology gaps” that arise between current infrastructure and services and emerging infrastructure and services required by research faculty. A professionally diverse group of research faculty should be engaged in short-term and long-term planning sessions for research infrastructure and services to ensure widespread applicability. Action Item 3:6 ITS should continue to partner effectively with the Center for Computational Sciences (CCS) to meet the changing needs and expectations of faculty and their funders. The CCS and ITS must work together to define and deliver the latest advances in research computing resources, including hardware, software, and training, across the research computing spectrum, from lower-level IT solutions up to HPC. This partnership must continue to be promoted and enhanced in order to maximize the ability to address changing needs and expectations driven by technological advances, so that a culture of innovation may thrive at the institution. 17 | EmpoweringTransformation RECOMMENDATION 3: RESEARCH ENABLEMENT The University should develop, maintain, and ensure broad utilization of IT resources that empower and advance discovery, and support partnership, entrepreneurship, and innovation when effectively utilized by faculty in research.
