Digging on Campus

The University of Kentucky participates in the KY811 Call Before You Dig Program. Any on-campus excavation, trenching, boring, or related activities, whether executed with heavy machinery or by hand, must have authorization of the Facilities Management prior to proceeding. Execution of a KY811 ticket does not constitute permission.

Per state law, a KY811 ticket must be submitted at minimum two working days prior to approved excavation. This allows for member utilities (such as UK Utilities, Kentucky American Water, Columbia Gas) to mark the underground infrastructure and provide a positive response confirming the request has been completed.

Failure to follow this important law can lead to damage of utility infrastructure, interruption of utility services to the campus, and human harm. Fines and penalties may also apply.
