POLICY

The university's facilities services division offers an equipment monitoring service to departments to assist them with monitoring critical alarms for departmental equipment. This service is available in areas where facilities has a Building Automation Controls (BAS) infrastructure in place. Departments desiring to take advantage of this service are responsible for all costs required to connect their equipment to the infrastructure and any ongoing maintenance cost for routine testing and repair of the equipment up to the BAS connection. PPD's Dispatch operators monitor the alarms and provide phone, pager, or e-mail notification to individuals identified to receive the notifications by the department requesting the service. An automated notification will also be sent to the designated individuals using the network of SMTP servers maintained by the Universities IT department. Departments desiring to take advantage of this service are responsible for any cost required to connect their equipment to the Building Automation System. Departments are also responsible for maintaining a work pager, phone, or email account to receive the notifications.

Facilities will make every effort to provide a reliable monitoring and notification service. The university's IT network and services and the Building Automation System provide the infrastructure for the service. The infrastructure is very robust and very reliable. It is also very large and complex. As with any electronic system failures may occur. In most cases the system sends out automatic notices when the system fails. If you desire we can include you in the notification list for communication notices that may impact your service.

Facilities goal in providing this service is to improve response to equipment failures that may be costly or be a liability for the university. By providing this service Facilities does not assume any responsibility for failure of equipment being monitored that results in undesired outcomes or loses to the department.

Departments desiring to take advantage of this service must complete the online request form acknowledging that they understand the service provided and agree to the conditions of service.
