Higher Education Licensure Commission

The Higher Education Licensure Commission (HELC) is a five member Mayoral appointed regulatory, consumer protection authority in Washington, DC. The HELC establishes standards for postsecondary educational operations, authorizes operations, approves programs, issues or denies licenses to, and oversees all private postsecondary educational institutions in DC.

On September 12, 2019, the HELC granted the University of Kentucky a conditional exemption license to operate the WilDCats at the Capitol program in DC. The HELC renewed this one-year license on September 21, 2020.
