Action Item 4:5 ITS, in collaboration with Institutional Research and other key stakeholders, should enhance and expand the data analytics capabilities at the University so that such tools are more broadly available to decision makers. The University must continue to expand the tools necessary to deliver timely information in support of decision-making. Appropriate entities (e.g., finance, human resources, budget, student and academic services) must have the tools necessary to analyze up-to-date information in an effective and efficient manner on any computing device (e.g., mobility enabled). Action Item 4:6 There continues to be an increasing dependence on mobile/smartphone integrated devices. As a result, key University systems must have accessible mobile application support. An individual should be able to securely conduct all enterprise activities from any device, anywhere, at any time. Mobile devices provide continual flexibility and opportunity for customers and also can present challenges to IT support personnel who must accommodate their use. Customers want the option to bring their latest personal device to work or class and utilize it to interface with UK infrastructure and services. This is known as bring your own device (BYOD), and a result of this is that not only are there a plethora of devices being acquired and inserted onto the UK network, but there is an even greater number of platforms being run on these devices. While support becomes increasingly difficult as more platforms and device types become a part of the landscape, expectations continue to be that applications and services at least have an interface geared toward mobile usage. As a result, mobile development must be given thought in regard to developing applications and acquiring new IT solutions. 21 | EmpoweringTransformation RECOMMENDATION 4: IT AND THE ENTERPRISE The University should develop and maintain plentiful IT resources and acquire (or develop) and arrange for (or deploy) applications, enterprise systems, and tools that facilitate the efficient and effective function of the University.
