Communication sciences and disorders (CSD) major Eman Issa has gotten in trouble her whole life for being too talkative. “I really love to talk,” she said. “So, when I found out I could go to school to help other people talk, I knew exactly where I belonged.” 

On February 21, conversation filled the room as communications sciences and disorders senior Kennedy Guess made her way from table to table thanking her guests for coming to the first annual Still We Rise Banquet—an event borne out of her own resilience and journey to honor UK students facing adversity.

The University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) awarded pilot funding to 10 projects that foster collaboration and new medical product development. The pilot funding program provides research support and up to $50,000 for preliminary and proof-of-concept studies critical to moving basic laboratory findings into clinical applications. 

Gilson Capilouto, PhD, Communication Sciences and Disorders, received the Novel Methodology Pilot Award for "Lingual Dynamics and Feeding Coordination in Neonates". 

Two University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences faculty members will receive the highest award given by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Robert C. Marshall, and Joseph C. Stemple, professors in the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders, will be recognized with the Honors of the Association at the ASHA annual convention, which will be held in in November in Denver. For a child's development: Parent interactions trump devices

Sixty-eight percent of parents of two-year olds report their child uses a tablet at home, according to a recent survey of U.S. parents conducted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In fact, it is not uncommon for today’s toddler to be connected via multiple devices including tablets, smartphones, and video game consoles, the survey showed.
