Appreciation and Best Wishes to Dr. Tony English

June 17, 2022

Faculty, Staff and Students,

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Tony English on his retirement. His last day with the College of Health Sciences will be Monday, June 20, 2022.

Although Tony is a native of the great state of Texas (he earned his BS in Physical Therapy from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1978), he’s been a Wildcat since he graduated from UK in 1990 with an MS in Education. He became a faculty member in our Department of Physical Therapy in 1992, and in 2008 he earned his PhD in our Rehabilitation Sciences program.

He has served as the program director of Physical Therapy from July 2009 to the present, and as Department Chair since 2019. Of his many accomplishments during that time, one of the most important was helping to transition his students back into a safe, in-person classroom environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tony was also the most recent recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association Kentucky Chapter's Donald H. Lange Lifetime Achievement Award.

And just last weekend, he threw out the first pitch at a Lexington baseball game — a man of many talents!

Thankfully, Tony has also been an integral part of the national search to find a new department chair/program director.

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the College of Health Sciences, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Tony for his years of service and leadership to the College of Health Sciences and the University of Kentucky.

Personally, I will dearly miss working with such a consummate professional. Not only do I admire what Tony contributes, but I appreciate the manner in which he goes about the business of leadership. I am confident you all agree!

Best,

Scott
