Let’s meet our panel.
As an employee of Harlem Hospital in New York City, medical laboratory science student Esah Ali, Esq.PA/CLT/HTL, has worked amidst the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak in the region. Through it all, Ali is managing full-time responsibilities in the lab while maintaining his coursework with the College of Health Sciences.
Kim Campbell, MSEd, MLS(ASCP)CM, faculty in the medical laboratory science (MLS) program, is retiring after 34 years with the UK College of Health Sciences (CHS). Her dedication and participation in the program helped MLS to graduate many of Kentucky’s laboratory professionals.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all University of Kentucky classes have moved online and College of Health Sciences instructors adapted quickly to turn hands-on curriculums into engaging material for remote learning.
Laboratories and the work of their personnel are essential in health care. A degree in medical laboratory science prepares you to provide essential clinical information to health care providers and ensure reliable results that contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of physiological and pathological conditions. Laboratory tests are extremely valuable and are responsible for up to 70 percent of medical decisions made by practitioners.
Ana Stone is an achiever. At only 20-years-old, she’s already graduated with her bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science and is now a member of the University of Kentucky Physician Assistant Studies Class of 2022.
Behind every hospital, physician’s office, or clinic, there is a great laboratory. Crucial to the diagnosis and treatment of physiological and pathological conditions, these laboratories—and the medical laboratory scientists who run them—are among the forces driving medical innovation and excellence to new levels.
