Today marked the opening of University of Kentucky's Sports Medicine Research Institute (SMRI), spearheaded by the UK College of Health Sciences and supported in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense.

The 10,000-square-foot facility, part of the UK Nutter Training Facility on campus, will conduct research into injury prevention and performance optimization for professional and collegiate athletes, the tactical athletes of the U.S. military, and physically active people of all ages in Kentucky and beyond...

Researchers are now making athletes faster and stronger at the University of Kentucky. 

At a ribbon-cutting Wednesday, officials dedicated the new Sports Medicine Research Institute (SMRI) at the university in Lexington. UK officials say there is no other facility like it within 400 miles.

The University of Kentucky unveiled a new 10,000 square foot sports medicine research institute Wednesday morning.

The institute was launched in part by a 4.2 million dollar grant from the Department of Defense.

The Institute which is housed at UK in a former football training facility will study performance optimization for athletes and act as a rehabilitation center for athletes and people in the U.S. military. The Director of Institute says they are using cutting edge technology...
