‘Current transitional guidelines will remain in place‘

July 13, 2022

Faculty and Staff,

Once again, I hope all of you are well. We have reached a summer midpoint of sorts, where one fiscal year ends, and another begins. Of course, this is also an important time for our offices on campus, for a number of reasons.

I would like to use this space to focus on the President’s recent comments about workplace policy and procedures.

In April, Dr. Capilouto announced that a Work Location Workgroup would be exploring ideas and making recommendations on how work location can support our “institutional mission and efforts to advance the state.”

He noted that as a residential campus, we have to meet the needs of our community as the workplace changes. “We want to support flexibility while consistently and appropriately providing service and support to our campus community,” he said.

Three workstreams were created:

  • Market research
  • Exploration
  • Guidelines and processes

Each of these included broad campus representation, from members of the Provost’s area, research, Student Government, Staff Senate, University Senate, Student Success and more.

They made quick progress.

“While the market research and exploration workstreams have identified and benchmarked UK against dozens of peer institutions, as well as engaged in dialogues with experts across campus, the guidelines and processes team will now begin their work with an eye toward making recommendations for the upcoming fiscal year,” the President wrote.

This process is consistently evolving, something we all must be comfortable with now in a post-pandemic world. However, the President noted that as the workstreams continue, “current transitional guidelines will remain in place.”

You can find those guidelines and procedures here.

Lastly, I’d like to once again remind you that we will utilize this space to provide updates on this topic whenever new information becomes available. We anticipate more guidance from President Capilouto in mid to late August, and when it comes we will share it with you here.

Continue to stay healthy and well,

Scott
