There were a range of emotions when students in the College of Health Sciences graduated Friday morning.

Joy. Pride. Relief. And even a bit of sadness.

Mary Jo Cooley Hidecker, PhD, CCC-A/SLP, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky was inducted as a Distinguished Scholar Fellow at the 2024 Forum of the National Academies of Practice (NAP). This honor recognizes Dr. Hidecker’s scholarship, research, and teaching which supports interprofessional practices.

That quote came from the iconic Dr. Seuss, and it was repeated Monday night by Stacy Fritz, PhD, PT, FAPTA — the newest inductee into the College of Health Sciences Hall of Fame.

Baez Honored as Young Alumni Award Winner

Shelby Baez knew she wanted a career in athletic training when she was in high school. But originally, she thought she was going to contribute to Good Morning America.

As a four-sport athlete growing up in Fayetteville, N.C., (that’s basketball, softball, volleyball and cross country, if you’re curious) she originally thought she may be a journalist, then go to law school and be a political correspondent for GMA.  

About 70 faculty, staff, current students, alumni and friends attended the American Physical Therapy Association Conference's Alumni Reception Friday, Feb. 16 in Boston.  

The group had the chance to connect with clinical partners as well.

Molly Taylor, MS, LAT, ATC, a Rehabilitation and Health Sciences doctoral candidate and research assistant, has received a $2,500 grant from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research & Education Foundation for an intervention study on emotional intelligence (EI) and burnout in healthcare profession (HCP) students.
