COOL FOR THE SUMMER: Interns able to get out of ‘comfort zone’

For Jacob Yeray, this summer is all about gaining experience outside the classroom, learning about new career paths and stepping outside his comfort zone.

In other words, it’s called being an intern.

Yeray, a rising senior in the Clinical Leadership and Management program, is 20 years old, and originally from Columbus, Ohio. Currently, he’s interning in Sales Operations with IVX Health in Nashville.

“I have been able to shadow our field reps each week, coordinate market research, present data to our C-Suite and executives, and ensure accurate documenting of accounts in our customer relationship management programs,” he said.

Yeray said he was able to get the internship through Handshake here on campus. “I am so glad I got into this position as I hope to get into medical sales after graduation this coming May,” he said. “Working behind the scenes mostly, but still getting field experience, has helped get me on track to do so.”

Interning in CLM is just another way that getting your degree in the College of Health Sciences sets you apart. And it gives further proof why those who intern go on to have further success in the future.

“I believe interning is a super impactful way to gain experience outside of the classroom,” he said. “Taking opportunities like it allow you to be exposed to career paths earlier and narrow down what you like and don’t like, while also making connections wherever you find yourself.”

And — if you move away from home — you continue to learn about yourself as a person.

“Moving away for the summer has also proved very beneficial to get out of my comfort zone,” he said. “I have learned a lot more about living and managing myself that I would have at home!”

Each week we'll feature another student who is participating in a summer internship.
