‘Purpose and professionalism. Duty and kindness’

Sometimes it’s all about who — as well as what — you know.

And Emmanuel Dhemby Moussabou knows about networking and making relationships.

Moussabou, a 22-year-old from Libreville, Gabon, is majoring in Clinical Leadership and Management in the College of Health Sciences. Right now, he’s interning at St. Joseph Hospital Main in Lexington, with Adam Gossom, Market Vice President of Operations.

“I had an in-person interview with Dr. Anthony Houston, the Market CEO,” Moussabou said. “The connection was made by Darly Love, who I met at a conference at UK, a member on the board.”

There you go. A chance meeting led to a connection, which led to an internship. And it’s one he’s enjoying, by the way.   

“So far, I am getting to know the hospital and its staff a lot better,” he said. “I am spending a week or two with each department.”

It’s already been a great learning experience. Moussabou acknowledges that CLM emphasizes interning — and he agrees that it’s an important part of a student’s education.

“I love it! I am learning so much about how the hospital operates, and all the different positions involved,” he said. “For example, today I spent the entire day with the radiology department, sitting in and observing while they support in surgical Operations.”

Interning in CLM is just another way that getting your degree in the College of Health Sciences sets you apart. And it gives further proof why those who intern go on to have further success in the future.

“I think this is a great place to intern,” Moussabou said of the hospital. “The work environment is a mix of feelings of purpose, professionalism, duty and kindness.”
