This week: Maria Casoglos

Maria Casoglos is getting the best of both worlds.

As an intern at Lexington’s Marshall Lifestyle Medicine, Casoglos is spending part of the summer in the corporate office and part of it in a medical office.

“The first half of the internship is in the corporate office where I focus on patient experience,” she said. “I am learning to create patient profiles, schedule appointments, and create ‘lifestyles,’ which is our term for individual healthcare plans. Later this summer, I will move to one of their medical offices to focus on healthcare activities. I will be shadowing their clinical administrators and have the opportunity to interact with patients.”

Recommended for the internship by the father of a friend, Casoglos is proof that networking — and who you know — makes a difference, as does getting an internship.

“Internships are incredibly important — especially for rising seniors — because in Clinical Leadership and Management, we have a broad range of opportunities to pursue upon graduation, and an internship is a great way to test whether a particular healthcare setting is right for you,” she said. “There is great value in learning that a certain job or environment is not of interest to you, or in great interest of you.”

The 21-year-old native of Johns Creek, Ga., said she is really enjoying her time with Marshall Lifestyle Medicine.

“Their approach to healthcare focuses on the overall lifestyle of their patients, and includes feeling and looking their best,” she said. “The company creates individualized healthcare plans for each patient based on carefully assessing their health and listening to their needs.

“The staff at Marshall Lifestyle Medicine are highly skilled and professional and are excellent role models for myself and any college student who will soon be seeking full-time positions after graduation,” she continued. “They are hard-working, caring, patient, perceptive, and have made me feel incredibly welcomed since my very first day.”
