When Stacey Middleton, the Intervention Instructor at Bryan Station High School, first met with students and staff from the University of Kentucky during COVID, she never expected the success that would follow. 

But the plans and meetings, the wait and work have all paid off.

‘School is a lot easier with a good friend’

The first time they met was on Zoom. It would be almost a year later before they talked in person.

But by that time, they’d be the best of friends.

“When we were ambassadors in 2020, everything was online,” Brooke says.

Scott Lephart, PhD and Dean of the College of Health Sciences, looked out over the crowd and smiled.

In July, the PATHfinders hosted the first four-day in-person Summer Bridge program! The program allowed first-year students to meet their peers, upper-class students, faculty and staff in the College of Health Sciences, explore various healthcare professions and gain financial and academic support.

When the students walk up and get inducted tonight, Emma Pastirik says she will fully realize that the ceremony is the most notable achievement that the College of Health Sciences Student Ambassadors have made.

Four people with ties to the College of Health Sciences were honored at the 31st Annual Lyman T. Johnson Awards Luncheon at noon, Friday, Oct. 14.

This year, we had four nominees from the College, two from 2021 and two from 2022 — all were honored this year because the event was unable to be held last year due to COVID.

The 2022 CHS Student Awards was a feel-good, end-of-the-year celebration of achievement held in the Worsham Cinema in the Gatton Student Center.

"Today is about our students," CHS Dean Scott Lephart, PhD, told the crowd. "This is an exciting time to celebrate."
